This page will list the Internet Projects we will be participating in. As well as our own project.

Our Current Projects

We are doing a couple of online projects right now. One is the Iditarod project. You put up a map of Alaska and mark the checkpoints. Your student picks a musher to follow, then during the race the student keeps up with the time their musher comes through the checkpoint. There is also a website that has a letter from a musher at each checkpoint along with some extra activities to do. This is a lot of fun. My girls each picked a past winner to follow. The race starts March 1st, so you need to get signed up pretty quick.

Another project we are doing is a postcard swap. This is through Homeschool Swapping Adventures on Facebook. They have many, many projects. Some others are: Flat Stanley, Geo Box swap, Pen Pals, Mother’s Day swap, and Homemade Easter cards. I like the postcard swap because it is pretty simple and inexpensive. We have signed up with two families and I’m waiting on two others to reply. You can sign up with five families at a time. I believe this is a regular monthly swap. We are going to try and get a postcard from every state.

I think doing some extra stuff like this keeps students interested and excited about learning. There are a couple of places to find online projects. Here are just a few:

I’d love to hear from you about your projects. Did you enjoy them? I’d also like to know what projects you have done so I can add them to my list.

Our Internet Projects

We will be doing some new internet projects in the coming months and also this next year.  This blog will chronicle the projects we do and what happens.  I’m very excited about these projects.

The first project is called Skype R’ Us.  We will Skype with a 1st grade class in Iowa. They are trying to get a classroom in every state in the US.  They have many states to go.  The class has a questionaire that we are finding the answers to and we will discuss the answers during our Skype session.  I spoke to the teacher and he is very excited about a homeschool group participating.  He told me that he has never had a homeschool group participate before.

I’ll post again after the session.

Our second project is called Trucker Buddy.  We will doing this project with the homeschool group as well.  This is a project where you communicate with a truck driver.  You can also track the drivers stops on a map.  The driver can also come to your “school” to meet the children.  I’m not sure if we will be doing this project right now or in the Fall.  The driver is willing to participate during the summer, so we might continue you this project during our summer session.  Our group is doing a Book Club during the summer months, so this might be a good addition.

We have one more project we will be doing.  The title is called The Day I was Born” Project.  We will be doing this one ourselves.  Abby will be researching what happened on the day she was born.  She will then write a report to send to the project.  There they will be putting together a History book with the data they receive.  I really like this project because of the tangible result of the book.

New Topic for this blog

I will be changing the emphasis for this blog.  I’m hoping the new name will be changed soon.  This page will be where I will list any and all internet projects we will be participating in.

I am also going to start a project of our own.  I’m not sure of the name yet, but it will be Skype to interact with other homeschoolers and classrooms.  I will have a questionaire up soon and will begin the project sometime in May.

If you would like to participate in this project check back to read all about it or contact me at:

As promised, before and after pictures of Day 2 challenge

Ok here are my before and after pictures of Day 2 challenge:

Inside of refridgerator BEFORE

Inside of freezer BEFORE

Top of fridge BEFORE

Front of fridge BEFORE

It took me about an hour and a half to take everything out and scrub down the inside.  I then cleaned off the top and wiped it down.  Then I took all the old stuff off the front, but Abby wanted her latest drawing to be on there, so thats the flower. So let me know how I did.

Homemaker’s Challenge – Day 2

I know its been a while since I have even looked at this blog.  Things have been a little crazy around here.  BUT, I’m going to start again.  I might not do this every single day, but I am going to work through it. So… here goes day 2.

The Day 2 Mary’s challenge says: “Start looking at your domain as something to make come alive!

What can you do today to bring life to your home, your children, your husband, and your sphere of influence?”

I know that I need to keep our house clean, that is the biggest thing for me right now.  But I was thinking about things like, playing music instead of the TV on all the time, eating at the table instead of in the living room, complimenting both my children and my husband more, and praying for my family more.  So I guess thats my answer for the Mary challenge.

The Martha challenge says:  “Kitchen – Clean out and scrub down the refrigerator and freezer.

Try using 2 tablespoons of baking soda per 1 quart hot water to wash interiors.”

So I’m off to complete this one.  I’ll post pictures of the fridge when I have finsihed.  My accountability partner suggested before and after pics.  Its going to be embarrassing, but I’m going to do it.

Homemaker’s Challenge – Day 1

Today I’m starting something new.  I’m a horrid house clearner!  My house is in a mess all the time.  I hate it!  So I’ve decided to join an online challenge that I came across yesterday.  It is just beginning, so if your interested you can follow this link to join.

Homemakers Challenge - 31 Days to Clean

Day 1 – Mary Challenge – Today I’m supposed to write down why I want a clean house.  Well the biggest reason for me is I know that my family deserves more than I’m provided right now.  I also know that I’ve been given this family and this house and I’m the person that God has put into place to maintain them.  I’m not doing that right now.  I want to be the homemaker that God expects me to be.  I also want a place that someone could just drop by and I wouldn’t be embarrassed by how the house looks.

Martha Challenge –  I’m supposed to look over all the Martha challenges and make a list of supples I will need. So here it goes:

plastic containers for organizing, baking soda, rags for cleaning, extra trash bags, and boxes.

Daily Devotion – from The Cove

Monday, March 21, 2011

“I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.”

Psalm 17:15

Is it not logical to believe that the only one who can recreate us is the One who created us in the first place? If your watch were out of order, you wouldn’t take it to a blacksmith. If your car needed overhauling, you wouldn’t go to a machine shop. Our spiritual problems can be solved only by the God who created us originally. He created us in His own image and likeness; today, by the grace of His Son, He can recreate us in the likeness of His resurrection. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we are recreated and become partakers of His life.

Prayer for the Day

There is so much that is out of order in my life, Lord. Remake all the parts that need the infinite healing of your re-creation.

from: The Cove

I wonder how the Lord stands me sometime.  I’m so selfish and needy.  I don’t want to always be looking at the negative around me, I want to be a light for Christ.  The verses, Phil. 2:14-15, say we are to be blameless and harmless.  Am I? Am I harmless or do I do harm with my negative thoughts and words.  It goes on to say ” in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world”.  I’m not shining too much right now.  But I want to!!  Today I vow to be a light.

Father help me be a light in this world.
